7 DIY Mom Valentine Decorations

Valentine Wreath

Need: (got all decorations from Dollar Tree)

- Foam ring

- Heart picks

- Red Garland

- Hot glue gun

Wrap the garland around the ring... hot gluing it down till the ring is completely covered. Next break the sticks off the hearts and hot glue them on the ring. I did lay mine out first before hot gluing to see what they would look like. Then I attached a ribbon to be able to hang it.

Valentine Ring Garland

Need:
- Sheets of paper (red, pink, white, or patterned)
- Glue stick
Cut sheet of paper in half. Then cut strips 2 inches wide. Glue ends together

Love Glass Block

Need:

- Glass block (You can get them at your home store. You can even buy ones with pre-made holes in them for your lights)
- Vellum paper

- Mod podge (you can get next to glue in craft stores)

- LOVE stickers

- Ribbon

- Lights

Attach vellum to glass block with Mod Podge (spread evenly on back of vellum w/ paint brush or foam brush). Attach the LOVE stickers on the vellum. Wrap a piece of ribbon around the block and tie a bow at top. Fill block with lights and enjoy!

Heart Garland

Need:

- Colored sheets of card stock

- Glue stick

- Pencil or pen

- Glue dots or double sticky tape

- Fishing line and needle (optional)

Cut strips of paper. You can even glue two strips together to make it a bigger heart. Fold strips in half. Taking one end of the strip, take a pencil and roll the paper inwards till you are about 1 inch from the fold. Gently pull out the pencil. Repeat other side. Now you can glue the middles together with dots or double sticky tape.

You can glue them together to make a garland or take a need and fishing line and start from bottom of heart and push needle through bottom, then in between heart to top. Add as many hearts as you like. The double sticky tape or glue dots will hold the hearts in place. Then you can hang the garland from the mantle or the dangling garland from your chandelier.

Lacy Heart Garland

Need:

- Paper lace hearts (they have them at the Dollar Tree or Craft stores

- Card stock

- Thin ribbon

- Hole puncher
- Double stick tape

Cut out hearts from card stock a little smaller then the paper lace hearts. Using double sticky tape, tape them together. After all hearts are done hole punch at each end of heart. Then weave ribbon in it (leave enough at ends so you can hang). Hang this on your mantle, kitchen window, child's bed, etc...

Love Letters

Need:

- Wood LOVE letters
- Red craft paint

- Ribbon (same width as letters)

- Glue

Paint the letters. Glue the ribbon around the letters (sides, tops, etc). Then place on dining table, mantle, etc..

Felty Heart

Need:

- 3/4 yard red felt (cut into 3 inch circles)
- Straight pins

- Foam heart shaped

Fold the circle in half then half again. Attached it to the foam heart with the straight pins until the whole heart is covered and you don't see any of the white heart foam. Attach a ribbon if you would like to hang it.

DIY MOMS - Valentines Day Tree For Fun Decorating

For over 10 years I have placed out in my Valentine decorating a tree. Yes the Christmas tree goes back in the box and out comes the Valentines day tree. Some years it has been a white painted branch and other years it has been a mini red lighted (Christmas) tree that I purchased during the after Christmas clearance sales.

It has been a fun tradition for our family to have our yearly Valentines day tree as part of our decorations when our house goes red, white and pink.

Construction Paper or card stock

Instructions:
Beginner writers:
Have your child choose one conversation heart to create a sentence with. You can then help them to make a complete sentence with additional heart candies then glue them to the paper.

Experienced writers:

Make a Card: It may seem like it’s just for kids or for the very crafty, but you’ll find it fun once you get started making your own cards. Mad Lib Valentine Exchange Idea

Mad Lib Fun

I saw this really cute Valentines Day project last Februray and thought it would be perfect for my kids to make this year. Amazingly I still have my hand scratched notes almost a year later.


Here is what you will need:

mad lib pages, patterned papers
embroidery thread (craft floss)
white paper, small hole punch

I happen to scrapbook so I have scads of patterned papers on hand. If you don't, you could give your child some printer paper and let them do some drawings and create their own patterned paper. Otherwise, you can pick up a few sheets of pretty paper at any craft store or most dollar stores. Just about any weight of paper will work but I found that the lighter the paper, the easier it was to roll nicely. Cut these papers to 3" x 6 ".

Roll up a mad lib page, then roll the patterned paper around that. Secure with embroidery thread by wrapping around 8-10 times and tying in a knot. Leave some extra string at the end to tie on the message. I happened to have this kind of thread on-hand, but I'm sure you could be creative and make due with any kind of string or ribbon, so long as it wasn't too wide or bulky.

I hand wrote the messages to go with the mad libs, but you could type them up and print them out. I used a paper punch with a tag shape but the original post I saw featuring this idea printed out the messages and cut them into rectangle shapes. Which ever method you choose, you will hole punch them and attach to an open end of the string.

The messages we used were: "I'm mad about you" , "I can't lib without you", "You have mad skillz". If you come up with any other ideas for messages, please share them in a comment below. I'd love to hear what you come up with!

I love this project because our family loves mad libs. They are a fun element we like to add to our campfires in the Summer, though they are great fun any time of the year. Another reason I like this project is because it can be tailored to suit each child by letting them pick out the papers. A lot of Valenines Day merchandise can be girly but I don't have any girls, so this is perfect for my clan of little men!

2. Write your message with marker on the outer flap.
   Suggested Messages
   "We're two of a kind!"
   "You've met your match!"
   "You're two cute."

#4 Heart Rice Krispie PopsThese are fun and yummy. Get out the boxes of Rice Krispie and your bags of marshmallows to create these fun classmate treats. Use cello bags to cover them and create classmate exchanges by adding a tag. Full directions over at Skip to my lou.


#5 Candy Wraps
Create fun Valentines by wrapping Hershey candy bars, Sweet Tarts or Lifesavers with these fun wrappers from Family Fun

Materials

• Printable wrappers with messages (see instructions 1.)

White paper

• Scissors

• Color printer
• Hershey candy bars, LifeSavers, SweeTarts

Instructions

1. Download and print out the wrappers on a color printer.
