MOM the NurseBy: Trisha Novotny

As a mom we wear many different hats and one of those is being the nurse or home health care provider to my family. However, being a mom does not make me an expert when it comes to dispensing medications to my family. Over the years of my mom journey I have often had to place a call to my Pediatrician office to inquire whether it is safe to take two different medications at the same time, what is the correct dose to give my child or even which over the counter medication will work best? Have you made those same phone calls?

I have found a way we Moms ( nurses) can simplify these calls and save ourselves time. I now use Drugs.com www.drugs.com. Drugs.com is the most popular, comprehensive and up-to-date source of drug information online. Providing us moms with free, accurate and independent advice on more than 24,000 prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines & natural products.
Their recently released, award winning tool, MedNotes, provides a free online personalized medication management program that can be used to organize and keep track of your entire families medication profile.

MedNotes allows you to keep separate medication lists for yourself, family members or patients. Specify age and sex separately for each profile to get only the most relevant information. Options are also available for pregnancy and lactation warnings. Physicians and researchers can also build profiles for each of their patients or keep a handy list of all medications prescribed.

MedNotes offers
  • Instant access to detailed warning and interaction information.
  • Receive email notifications of new warnings and new drugs in the pipeline.
  • Access easy to read consumer information, news, drug images and user ratings.
  • Printer friendly reports for discussion with your doctor or pharmacist
Drugs.com is just another way to "Simplify" our lives as moms.

MOM Tips

Solutions for Your Children's Bathroom
When Dave and I were married two years ago his family moved into the home I was living in. It's not a real big home for 7 people, but we manage fine. But being able to figure things out like towel racks in a bathroom has been interesting.
Having 5 children and only 1 towel rack was not going to work unless I wanted to have them grab a clean towel everyday. No thank you to that much laundry. So this was my solution. I decided peg board would do the trick, but didn't want ugly brown stuff on my bathroom wall making it look like a garage. I found this online after much searching. It has worked out great. The kids have 2 hooks each that they can put their towels and robes on. They each have their own bins that their toothbrushes can go in. Then there is one larger bin that the brushes and combs can go in. I put their names with letter stickers on the front of their little bins too.
Sometimes you just have to think outside the box.
