10 Practical Praying Lessons from His Word

1. In Secret
   

   When you pray, you should go into your room and close the door and pray to your Father who cannot be seen. Your Father can see what is done in secret, and he will reward you. (Matthew 6:6, New Century Version)

2. In Agreement with Other Christians
   

   "Also, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about something and pray for it, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. This is true because if two or three people come together in my name, I am there with them." (Matthew 18:19-20, New Century Version)

3. In Faith
   

   So I tell you to believe that you have received the things you ask for in prayer, and God will give them to you. (Mark 11:24, New Century Version)

4. In Jesus' Name
   

   And if you ask for anything in my name, I will do it for you so that the Father's glory will be shown through the Son. If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it. (John 14:13-14, New Century Version)

5. By Asking, Seeking and Knocking
   

   "Ask, and God will give to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, everyone who asks will receive. Everyone who searches will find. And everyone who knocks will have the door opened.
   
   Even though you are bad, you know how to give good gifts to your children. How much more your heavenly Father will give good things to those who ask him!" (Matthew 7:7-8,11, New Century Version)

6. While Abiding in Christ & His Word
   

   If you remain in me and follow my teachings, you can ask anything you want, and it will be given to you. (John 15:7, New Century Version)

7. While Fasting
   

   They chose elders for each church, by praying and fasting for a certain time. These elders had trusted the Lord, so Paul and Barnabas put them in the Lord's care. (Acts 14:23, New Century Version)
   
   Note: fasting - people give up eating for a special time of prayer & worship to God.

8. While Delighting in the Lord
   

   Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4, New International Version)

9. From an Obedient Life
   

   My dear friends, if our hearts do not make us feel guilty, we can come without fear into God's presence.And God gives us what we ask for because we obey God's commands and do what pleases him. (1 John 3:21-22, New Century Version)

10. According to God's Will
    

    And this is the boldness we have in God's presence: that if we ask God for anything that agrees with what he wants, he hears us. (1 John 5:14, New Century Version)
