Oatmeal's not just for breakfast anymore! In fact, a large tub of oats makes a delightful diversion any time of day -- and a worry-free one, since it's fine if an oat or two make their way into your child's mouth. Simply dump a large container of uncooked oats into a lidded plastic bin and add measuring cups, funnels, and scoops -- or some favorite sand toys. When play is done, have your child help sweep up any stray oats, pop the lid back on, and scoot the bin out of the way. For even easier cleanup, set the bin on a beach towel before play begins.
