Spring Cleaning of the Heart and of the Home

by Jeanie Cullip, 24/7 MOMS Inspiration Editor

Spring has arrived! And not a moment too soon. The skies are clear, the sun is shining brightly, even though it is rather chilly it is here! Which means it is time to clean, a time to clear out the old to make way for the new. I do not know who began spring cleaning however it is a tradition in most households to get a good cleaning once the sun is out. Maybe now is the right time because we have a reason to open all the windows to let the fresh air in and the light appears showing the dust that has pilled up on the bookshelves and all the little fingerprints over the windows which have been covered in winters gray.

Hebrews 4:13 states that "nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight.
Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must
give account."
Are there piles of dust forming on our spiritual bodies too? Are there fingerprints marking up the openings of our spiritual beings? Is our spiritual life been hidden in the darkness of our own lives? Been pushed away by things like hatred, selfish ambition, envy and jealousy?

This spring can also be a great time to open our hearts and ask Jesus to shine His light in so that He can tidy up. Allowing Him to clean up and move out the old stuff and make room for new stuff like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Having our homes in order and running smoothly is always a good feeling… but having our hearts right with the Lord is even more satisfying.

Dear Jesus, I desire to have a clean heart. Allow the fruits of your spirit to be evident in my life. Help me to read and meditate on your word. Help me to relate to you in prayer and confession. Help me, live the life you want me to. Produce your fruit in my life. Thank you. Amen
