Getting Fit the FREE way!
by: Tanya Peila
One of my, what you can call "New Year's Resolution", is losing some baby weight and getting in shape for myself and for my family!

First step, which unfortunately is not free was joining a gym. However after some research there are gyms that will offer you financial aid like your local YMCA. After joining the gym I decided eating right or better was the key to success!
First I started out looking online for FREE fitness and nutrition websites. There are TONS out there and what will work for you may not work for others. I found Sparkpeople.com works very well for me. One because it is completely FREE and two because I can take it with me

http://www.sparkpeople.com/ is the largest weight loss website in the US and it is completely free (no membership fees, upsells etc). They also provide http://www.sparkrecipes.com/ as the largest healthy recipe website in the US (completely free).
The second site and app I found that helps me out is caloriecount.com. This site is a FOOD DATABASE! I want to eat everything in it but I know I can't! So instead I use it when I need the nutrition info on a specific food. I have found being conscious of what I put in my mouth and how much of it I put in my mouth helps put things into perspective.

I can't wait to check out the moms weekly menu thing!
My husband & I have taken on a similar challenge, Trish. We joined Weight Watchers online (about $16.95 - and if you google a WW discount, you can usually find a "no sign up fee and like 30% off your 1st 3 mo's..). They also have an app available for the i-phone. It isn't free, but it's working for us... I just hit my 2-week goal of 5#'s! We count points - which is also a huge eye-opener as far as portions. Many items are free - like a full cup of berries. It has a daily diary & recipe builder that calculates your points, and a general calculator for products not listed in their food finder. Applebees has WW entrees listed on their menu too! Generally speaking, it's a low-fat diet. I ate light on Saturday and then looked up DQ desserts - I could have a DQ small sundae (any flavor) for only 6 points! (that's out of 24 for me for a day (which is calculated by WW with a BMI kind of indexing thing).
I'm just loving learning what I CAN eat and still enjoying those things I love - only in better moderation now.
Oh, try the "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray butter - works like a champ!
What great information. I'm going to copy the whole page. I just wanted to say thanks, and tell you in my area there's a local gym called Delnor Health & Wellness Center. It's a great place. I went there for therapy when I had back surgery at Delnor Hospital. They cost about $8 to 900 a month, but I'm on disability & can't afford it & if you just bring proof of disability, a letter from your doctor as to why you need the facilities (they have 2 pools & so many things), and a copy of last year's income tax it's very possible to get a year free. I've had it two years in a roll now. Fantastic!
