Generation T

The latest trend in being green is to recycle what you already have and turn it into something hip and new. Generation T: Beyond Fashion, by bestselling author Megan Nicolay, is packed with 120 projects that show you how to turn the humble yet ever-malleable t-shirt in dozens of new directions—from baby gifts to pet accessories, stuff for the home, the car, the road, and of course, you!

Do you, when you see something on a store rack that you absolutely love, run your hands over the item, admire the craftsmanship, and imagine the outfit it will complete? Then do you, upon seeing the price tag, promptly drop the garment from your fingers with a sneer, “Forty dollars?! I could so make that.” If you find yourself more often than not in situations like these—grumbling about high-priced clothes as you browse the racks—you are not alone.
Generation-T.com is a forum in which to learn about and educate other like-minded individuals (and T-shirt lovers!) in Zen and the Art of T-shirt Slashing—of making something old into something new (and getting a little aggression out, besides). All of the projects are designed and created by Megan or by readers and other rogue fashionistas like you. Altogether now: “I could so make that.”

Many of Megan’s projects require only scissors and safety pins, and all of them are simple and fun to make. Projects range from the simplest no-sew to intermediate, and all have easy-to-follow illustrated directions.

Zobmondo!! Entertainment

Zobmondo!! Entertainment, makers of the “Would You
Rather…?” line of board games, has introduced a new game for the inherently verbal party crowd called “Life’s a Pitch: The Wild Game of Defending the Ridiculous.”
“Americans have become passionate about our games because they get people talking, laughing, and interacting…and they’re cool,” says creator Randy Horn. “What if every part of our lives came down to an “elevator pitch?” I thought this idea would make a great board game!”
“Life’s a Pitch” requires each player to convince the group why a random object is the best solution or answer to a particular scenario. The person who invents the most creative, amusing or persuasive “pitch” will win the game. A sample scenario: “A president was impeached because this item was found in his nightstand…” The player must choose one item from six object cards in his or her hand to feature during a “pitch” – such as: magnifying glass, cactus, marshmallow, blender, toupee or invisibility cream. Players are asked to put their imagination to work and weave the most convincing story. One example: “the President was told repeatedly that the CIA’s invisibility cream was not for personal use!”
The more outlandish the explanation the better. Charades… costumes… props…anything goes. But hurry, you can’t take forever, just like in the real world.
“Life’s a Pitch: the Wild Game of Defending the Ridiculous” is designed for 3 or more players,
ages 12+. The game is available at Barnes & Noble, Calendar Club, Amazon.com, Target.com and Zobmondo.com. Retail price is $24.95.

Laurie Mallet founded Ozone Design in 2000. She strongly believed that socks were one of the only items untouched by fashion. “Ozone Design is devoted entirely to putting fashion and fun into socks and tights. Amazingly, they were still looked upon as undergarments.” Laurie’s goal was to bring spirit and passion to one of the most intimate and neglected parts of our wardrobe. “For too long the sock has been ignored by the world of fashion and we’re going to change that.”

During the past nine years Ozone has set the benchmarks for what’s cool and hip in footwear. “There have been more innovative and new design concepts that have come out of Ozone than any other sock company in history.” The list is impressive: shoe socks, safe sox, hemp socks, radionic socks, tattoo socks, motorcycle socks, the replacement sock, etc.

Laurie still has her heart embedded in the art world. Ozone makes socks for many of the world’s famous museums. Laurie worked closely with Christo and Jean Claude during the Gates project and developed the highly successful “Gates sock” sold during the event. Ozone socks are sold
around the world and through a network of two thousand stores in America.

A recent Vogue article sums it up: “When Mallet talks about her dreams for socks, people
often ask her what all the fuss is about. Most of the time no one can see your socks anyway. 'Fashion is something you do for yourself,' says Mallet. 'Of course, when other people
get a glimpse, that is exciting. But I prefer the idea that socks are your secret weapon.'

Ozone Design, we are determined to experiment with new techniques and patterns in order to push sock design to it's limits. We also get some of our best ideas from our own necessities. Many times when we at Ozone would pair our socks with boots and tights or leggings, we would scrunch them down in order to create more texture and interest.
We worked with our mills to see what was technically possible in order to achieve such a look quickly and easily. When we discovered that our mills were able to create this textured ruffle, we decided to make the sock that we could wear which was already scrunched down.

We chose to keep the color palette fairly neutral to allow the texture of the ruffles to really shine, and because of the high cotton content this sock is very soft and comfortable. Overall, it has proved wildly successful, and is one of our new favorites!

Before Rebecca Frezza began rocking the younger set, she was a dancer working toward her dream of performing on Broadway. From her roots in musical theatre and her work as a music educator, she has developed into an award-winning singer/songwriter of music for children. As a young person Rebecca was always performing - dancing and singing her way into every stage production she could find - with never a doubt in her mind that the stage was where she wanted to be. After studies at the Boston Conservatory and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Rebecca became immersed in a professional career whose impressive credits included performing in the worldwide touring companies of 'EVITA' and 'A Chorus Line.' While taking a break from life as a showbiz gypsy to get married and start a family, she began teaching for Music Together, a nationwide parent/child music program. It was there that Rebecca began writing music. Her first three songs, published by Music Together, were soon being sung by families all over the country. "I realized at that point that I was on to something," says Frezza. Rebecca, determined to create a body of original music for children who had outgrown toddler tunes but were not yet ready for mainstream adult "pop" music, was able to tap into a burst of creative energy that is still going strong. Thirteen of her original compositions were released on Rebecca's first CD, 'Music in My Heart.' Critics raved, and Rebecca's debut album received awards from Parents Guide to Children's Media, Dr. Toy, and Children's Music Web. In response to the demand for live performances, Rebecca Frezza soon found herself fronting an eight-piece band she calls Big Truck. With Rebecca "behind the wheel," Big Truck offers a variety of sound colors, two back-up singers, flute, harmonica, electric and acoustic guitars, bass, drum set, and more. Rebecca's dance and theatrical background are in evidence with a visually engaging presentation of synchronized dance movement, which audience members - young and old - often find themselves part of! A second award winning CD, 'Road Trip,' went a long way toward propelling Rebecca Frezza and Big Truck onto the national scene. They performed a live concert for broadcast on XM Satellite Radio, and Rebecca's songs are now played regularly on XM Kids. (One song, "I Know I'm Gonna Drive A Car," was on the XM Kids "13 under 13" countdown for over three months.) Four of Rebecca's songs were made into music videos (featuring Rebecca) on Banyan Entertainment's children's travel DVD 'Are We There Yet?' The good news about Rebecca Frezza has continued to spread nationwide through her music videos, airing regularly on NOGGIN'S 'Jack's Big Music Show' and 'Move To the Music.' Rebecca Frezza's third CD 'Tall And Small,' was released in July 2006. Like the others, it received numerous awards including the prestigious NAPPA Gold Award and was featured on both XM and Sirius Satellite Radio where Rebecca remained in the top ten kid's artists for months. During the same summer, Rebecca was hired to write eight songs for PBS Kids which she produced with her long time production partner Chris Putnam. The songs were used in music videos, starring Rebecca and some of the members of the band, which aired in the mornings during the programming block which featured, among other shows, Curious George and Clifford the Big Red Dog. As recognition grew, so did the opportunities to perform. Rebecca and the band have been touring all over the country. In addition to their shows in the NY tri-State area, recent stops have included Dallas, Orlando, West Palm Beach, Chicago and Minneapolis. Now, with the release of the new album, Special Kind of Day, Rebecca and the band look forward to spreading their music even farther. "It's been a wild ride so far. I can't wait to see where it takes us next!!"
