Keri Wyatt Kent's New Book - REST

Looking for a new book to read ? I had the opportunity to review Keri Wyatt Kent's new book REST. This book will make you stop, think and inspire you to make changes in your hectic busy mom world so that you can find true REST and place priority on the IMPORTANT.

Keri's New book focuses on practical ways to embrace the Sabbath and create simplicity and calm

Resting on the seventh day doesn’t fit neatly into our busy lives, but Keri Wyatt Kent provides functional advice to help pause and refresh even the busiest life overrun with demanding jobs, countless kids’ activities and getting dinner on the table. Kent combines her own life experiences as a soccer mom with her study of the ancient practice of resting one day of the week, known as the Sabbath, in her new book Rest: Living in Sabbath Simplicity (January 2009). She invites readers to rediscover the practice of Sabbath in a practical and accessible format.

Kent’s experiences as a retreat leader and a journalist collide as she offers true, interview-based stories along with scripturally based advice and guidance on how to live in a rhythm of work and rest she calls Sabbath Simplicity: living a “sanely paced, God-focused life.”

Rest explores what it means for busy parents and families to embrace the concept of Sabbath and how to adapt the practice to fit busy lives full of soccer games, ballet recitals and dentist appointments. Practicing Sabbath doesn’t mean a day without any activity but taking time to pause, reflect and focus on relationships.

Kent bases her study on Jesus’ teachings and actions and explores six aspects of Christian spiritual practice that lead to Sabbath Simplicity: resting, reconnecting, revising, pausing, playing and praying. Practicing these six actions creates space in our lives for rest and renewal.

A group study guide is included, making this book an excellent choice for small groups looking for calm in their lives.

  1. I'm excited to read this new book called Rest!! Last year being in full time ministry with three busy little boys, God continually was trying to teach me that He wanted me to learn to rest! I'd open the Bible and it'd be about rest, the radio sermon, a comment from our pastor... it went on and on, the whispers from my heavenly father seemed to get louder and louder! :) I still have a lot to learn so I think this book would be really good for me! Thanks for your emails! Love, Sue
