On the First day of our 25 Days of MOMS Christmas favorites 24/7 found a new game that is sure to create fun family time Jishaku.
Jishaku is a portable strategy game like chess or checkers that can be played anywhere – the kitchen or the beach. But unlike chess, there is an element of surprise when the magnets jump out of position, without warning. Surprise, then laughs, follow as two or more players try to beat force fields with strategic thinking plus careful and precise handling of the game’s magnetic stones.
Jishaku, Japanese for magnet, uses finely polished hematite magnets for playing pieces. There are several variations of the game but the most popular is "I'm Out". While alternating turns with your opponent(s), the goal of the game is to place magnets onto the game base - without letting any magnets connect.
If any magnets connect on your turn, you must collect those magnets and add them to your pile. The first person to run out of magnets wins.
But there is a twist. All magnets have North and South poles. Jishaku magnets do too. They just aren't marked. So as you carefully place your magnet in a hole you can feel the tug of magnets all around the board. Skilled players learn to use magnetic force in their favor- repelling the magnets closest to them without forcing them into other magnets.
At least that's the goal. But the results can be quite surprising.
Jishaku and 24/7 MOMS are giving away one Jishaku game. To enter for your chance to win Jishaku, sign-up to receive the 24/7 MOMS updates sent right to your in-box , then leave a comment with your email address, and you will be entered. Winner will be selected on November 23rd, 2008, using the random number generator at random.org.

ReplyDeleteWe have had family game night at our home for years. Two of our five children are grown, and when they come home, especially our oldest daughter looks forward to a game night.
We were just visiting about what game to buy this year as the family game gift. This one looks like a fun one.
Greetings, My two sons would be ecstatic if I would be lucky enough to win this game! I have read many good things about this game. Luck and strategy are what this family enjoys!
ReplyDeletePlease enter me in your fun giveaway drawing. Many thanks, Cindi
