Thrifty Tuesday Finds

It’s Tuesday, and I found some more ways to be frugal with these Thrifty Tuesday Finds:

Stretching the mighty dollar idea:

Last week I talked about my magazine addiction. This week I'll share another one of my many addictions - BOOKS. The only problem is that all 7 of us in this family have a book addiction. We love to read, and we love to continually build our growing library of books. The truth is we have officially run out of bookshelf space for all these book addicts in our home.

My parents also have the book addiction - just ask them about the many, many heavy boxes of books we had to move as children each time we moved to a new home. You would think I would have learned some sort of lesson about being addicted to books.

So where does the addicted-to-book-buying family purchase their books?

1. First, check out http://www.cheapestbookprice.com/ and search for the cheapest online places to purchase a particular book you are looking for.

2. Second, always check out your total price including shipping. Amazon has FREE shipping when you purchase $25.00 or more from them directly.

3. My favorite online sites for used books: http://www.half.com/, http://www.ebay.com/, and http://www.amazon.com/.

4. My favorite online sites for new books: http://www.amazon.com/ http://www.cbd.com/, Christianbook.com, and http://www.bookcloseouts.com/.

5. My favorite stores to shop for books: Costco, Borders bargain section (especially for kids books and cookbooks), TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Half Price Books, and any outlet bookstore I come across in my travels.

6. Don’t forget when you shop AMAZON , 24/7 MOMS can benefit and recieve credit to purchase MORE give-a-ways for the 24/7 MOMS so be sure to use our AMAZON search box on the right side of this blog when shopping Amazon.

  1. For all of the book lovers out there, I wanted to give a shout out for www.paperbackswap.com. It's not just for paperbacks, it's for any form of book. You post books to your "bookshelf" that you are willing to send to others (not ones from your permanent collection). Then others can order them from you, and you will receive a credit for every book you send. You can use those credits to order books you want from other peoples' shelves.

The best thing about it for me is making a wish list, and when your turn comes up and someone posts the book to their shelf, it's automatically sent to you.

I cannot tell you how many great books I have received through PBS!

Another similar site that I use quite often is www.bookmooch.com.

  2. AbeBooks.com is a great place to purchase used (or new) books. There are 13,500 booksellers with 110 million books. My husband and I have purchased (some rare) books for as little as a dollar. They describe the condition of the books and the shipping is usually inexpensive.

  3. Also similar to PaperbackSwap is www.bookins.com The thing that I like the most about it is that you don't pay postage to send books out: if someone requests one of your books, you click on a link to print out a paid postage form from the site. Then you send your book off on its merry way, and you have earned credits toward getting a book yourself.
