When we ask that it not come from us- it is because yes, we can (and will) be fired for telling you. There are cases where we may have gone to a superior already requesting assistance for a child, and been denied for whatever reason- and told NOT to mention it to the parent. It is usually a financial reason. Also, there are parents who are in deep denial about their child's problem, and have sue the schools for a teacher suggesting assistance or testing. It has happened.
It's an awful, vicious cycle.
But no, we don't want to be fired. Who does in this market? Yes, mommies and daddies- scream for change! PLEASE!!! We are screaming, too. But it is not the lowly teacher that is stopping your child from getting help- it is the administration, the local government, and the state boards. We have almost no control at all.
Mom to bio and adopted, special needs and "regular" students. Teacher. And yes, I have told parents when I have been told not to. Because kids matter to me.
~SamanthaSamanthahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17372153352097071844noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7654133427830024504.post-2233488645266558432010-10-06T05:40:43.787-07:002010-10-06T05:40:43.787-07:00I agree with you on this and thank you for writing...I agree with you on this and thank you for writing this. I have three special needs children and since entering this world, its seems that teachers do things to prevent from being fired or for fear of getting chastised. I think that this is a part of education that is in need of a serious change and I have been saying that for years.Yogihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02482388262825049927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7654133427830024504.post-35516646912222462562010-10-05T20:40:52.768-07:002010-10-05T20:40:52.768-07:00I fully agree with you about this. I homeschool my kids, as often as possible, because the school system has failed too many kids.

I have heard nightmares about parents dealing with the IEPs. It is ridiculous. So many parents have to end up suing the School District to get what they need. Why? Because the district is greedy and spends way more than needed per a child to give them a mediocre at best education.

Parents are responsible to make the change!Star Wars Momhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05862749054217069855noreply@blogger.com
